PROGRAM OUTLINE for this 2 day course in English

Having made the investment decision, sharpen your core project management capabilities by gaining the planning, communication, and leadership skills crucial to projects. Discover tools and practices for managing projects of all sizes and complexities with the latest industry principles and methods.

This course integrates with and builds on our sister offering “Project Appraisals”.  Having made the investment decision, this course will help you develop the essential skills and apply them in a pragmatic way to bring your project to a successful conclusion by answering the following questions:

  • What is success and who is defining it?
  • What do you need to do and when?
  • Who and what do you have to help you?
  • How will you measure and evaluate progress?
  • Who do you need to inform and when?
  • What could go wrong and what will you do if (and when) it does?
  • When will you know you have achieved success?
  • What has been learned?

Recommend Background

This course is suitable for anyone starting out in project management, irrespective of industry sector or organizational context, as well as practitioners who are moving on to manage projects of increasing complexity.

What you will learn

Project management is a process and a set of generic skills and techniques, now practiced in many different sectors and organizations. Therefore you’ll learn how to use the process and apply these in a pragmatic way, tailored to your own context, using a mix of theory, examples from case studies (of both successful and not so successful projects) as well as the real-life practical experience of the course facilitator.

Course format

  • Practice-based learning and critical engagement is a key theme through all our courses allowing delegates to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills immediately in their own working environments.
  • A comprehensive set of materials will be provided on the day including all presentation materials used by the course facilitator.

Syllabus

Day 1:

  • Defining the project context: analysing the major characteristics of your project and understanding the impact on your management approach.
  • Understanding the business case and developing a robust project charter.
  • Stakeholder analysis: identifying and analysing stakeholders. Who are your project’s advocates and adversaries? Separating the players and context setters from the subjects and crowd. Stakeholder management strategies.
  • Work breakdown structure: different methods for breaking your project down into manageable chunks.
  • The logic network: visualizing project implementation. Critical path and critical chain analysis.

Day 2:

  • Estimating, resources and scheduling: understanding and applying the basic principles.
  • Configuration management: how to deal with change within the project boundary.
  • Managing risk: identifying and assessing risks and pro-actively defining risk management strategies.
  • Project control: how much and when? Measuring, evaluating and reporting progress.
  • Project closure and analysis:   what went well and why, what could have been improved and why, what will you do next time?

Participant feedback

*** A course with 10 participants is very good to favour the interactivity. Thanks for the perfect course content and lecture.

*** Very good course, teacher, and approach. Material available on-line prior the course + request to the participants about their expectations from the course.

*** I strongly recommended this training to my colleagues as I found it very useful.

*** I think this was one of the best course I've ever attended. The trainer, Mrs Maureen, was extremely pedagogic and the structure of the course was very well planned with just the right mixture of theory versus practical examples and exercises.

*** It was a very enjoyable course. The group was small which made it easier to be 100% involved.  The exercises and case study were absolutely great and necessary to put the theory in practice. A very knowledgeable teacher.

Learn the way that suits you most!
